The Mini Mustangs prepare to start the cheers that they learned at the cheer camp with the Mustang Cheer team. This was at the first preseason game on Aug. 18, against George M. Steinbrenner, the Mustangs ended up winning 20-16.

The new year means fresh players for the JV Volleyball team. As they welcome the players to the team to take on the rival schools and bring a lead to victory, with the year ahead of them they take on the challenge.

Hailey Pekarek (‘27) explains her excitement regarding moving from a middle school team at Seven Springs Middle to the high school team.

“Playing for high school is a really fun experience, being able to learn and have fun, but compete at the same time. I plan on staying on the team for the rest of my high school years,” Pekarek said.

One of the only first classmen Kendall Calzone (‘29), is one of her kind being the only first-year student on the varsity team. It is an accomplishment a lot of the first-year students want to achieve.

“Playing in the high school team can be intimidating at times because being a freshman on a team with mostly upper-class students there is a lot of pressure, but it is fun competing at a higher level and getting better,” Calzone said.

On the varsity team Emma Hats (‘28), has been playing for 7 years and is excited to be back in action for her second year in high school.

“I enjoy the team bonding and just everything about it is so exciting, games, practices, and hanging out with the team after games or practices,” Hats said.

The JV girls have started the year on winning their first game 3-1 against Zephyrhills. As well s the Varsity winning 3-0 against Zephyrhills. The next game will be on August 29th at 7pm at Gulf High School.
