A family favorite, Inside Out (2015) is about a girl named Riley and how her emotions – Joy, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust – conflict after her family moves to San Francisco. The movie was created by Disney and Pixar and the creators of another family favorite, Up (2009).
Anglina Fahim (’27) talks about her expectations for the movie and her opinions on the teaser trailer.
“I love Inside Out, I love how [Riley] had all the different feelings and it showed how she expressed herself. I think the movie itself is better as one movie because there’s not going to be a lot of stuff to put in the second one because [she’s] just going on to Middle School,” Fahim said.
“I feel like [the creators] probably could have explained a bit more when it came to the movie itself. None of the emotions are going to be similar, and I loved that they were emotions that most middle schoolers feel,” Fahim said.
Fahim says she can’t wait to watch the sequel when it’s released, much like others that have a passion for animated films, such as Ava Fox (’25), who thinks the movie is better with a continuation.
“My favorite part about the first movie was the difference in emotions and the way the actors were expressing them and I loved the little memory islands. I think it’s a great standalone movie; I can’t say anything about the sequel yet because I obviously haven’t seen it yet, but it’s cool to get more of an expansion on the emotions because she’s going into her teenage years,” Fox said.
Fox says she noticed actress Maya Hawke would be voicing Anxiety which gets her even more excited for the sequel.
Reina Whitehead (’26) thinks the creators definitely need a sequel and expands on her thoughts on the trailer.
“First, I thought [the movie] was really good and it was a creative concept. My favorite part about it was probably when they would sometimes flash to the parents and their emotions in their head too. My favorite part of the trailer was all the new emotions they were introducing and they were really creative and sort of represent more popular feelings,” Whitehead said.
Either way, many seem to have high expectations for Inside Out 2. Nov. 9 2023 was the date that Pixar released a teaser trailer for the sequel, also announcing its premiering date as Jun. 14 2024.
